Bleeding (gravure print)
The smearing, which also bleeds from the printed area into the unprinted area, is often a sign of poor colour tolerance to moisture or an incorrect drying time of the ink. In some cases, a too flat doctor blade setting can lead to bleeding.
Solutions to bleeding:
- Ensure the correct web temperature for the substrate and the increase heating temperature or air flow.
- Check the viscosity of the ink and adjust it with solvents or additives if necessary.
- Verify the drying time of the ink and add quicker drying solvents if necessary.
- Inspect the doctor blade angle and flatten it if necessary.
