Gang saw blades get hot
The wood’s cutting surface can display burn marks, is getting rough and the gang saw blades are getting unusually/particularly hot (show blue stains).
Possible causes:
Tension of the gang saw is too soft, which means the gang saw’s tension is too high and therefore cannot be tensioned correctly in the frame.
- Dismantlement and repair (tensioning)
Missing tension in the gang mill frame (mill saw is too low on tension)
- Use of tension measuring device to measure the clamping of the gang saw blade in the frame – if necessary, re-adjustment
Projection of the saw is not correct
- Adjustment of the projection by a mechanic a/o inspection of the positioning of the holes in the gang saw blade
Tooth tips are dull
- Re-sharpen mill saw
Wrong shape of tooth; wrong angle; wrong height of tooth
- Inspection and adjustment of tooth geometry in consideration of the type of wood, cutting height, feed speed etc.
Set-up is out of the plumb
- Inspection and re-adjustment
Gang saw is not angular in set-up
- Re-adjust mill saws in the frame with the aid of a ruler or angle/elbow
